Troubled California oil refinery puts PBF's turnaround skills to the test
HOUSTON (Reuters) -- An aging California refinery is testing PBF Energy Inc's reputation as a turnaround whiz, with mounting production woes and costly repairs at the 88-year-old plant throwing a wrench into efforts to quickly revive profits.
Dow completes construction of ethylene production site in Texas
FREEPORT, Texas – The Dow Chemical Company announced the completion of the construction phase of its new ethylene production facility in Freeport, Texas. The Company reached this milestone within one week of the originally planned date, which was set approximately two years ago. Dow’s ethylene unit is now progressing through the commissioning phase, with start-up expected by mid-year.
Total enters JV, plans ethane cracker and polyethylene unit builds in Texas
PARIS -- Total is entering a partnership with Borealis and Nova to form a JV with the aim of building an ethane steam cracker and a new Borstar polyethylene unit on the US Gulf Coast. Total is expected to hold a 50% interest in the new JV.
Oxea awards Jacobs contract for propanol expansion project
DALLAS -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has been awarded a construction management contract from Oxea Corporation for a Propanol Expansion project at its manufacturing site at Bay City, Texas. Propanol is used to manufacture products such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, printing inks, coatings and adhesives.
Gazprom Neft building a hydrogen production facility at its Omsk refinery
Gazprom Neft has begun construction of a standalone 12,300 tpy-capacity hydrogen production unit at its Omsk Refinery. This processing facility will provide high-purity (99.9%) hydrogen for new and reconstructed hydrotreatment facilities, intended to reduce the sulfur content of motor-fuel components (blending agents).

Hindustan Petroleum refinery to use Honeywell UOP technology
DES PLAINES, Ill. – Honeywell announced that Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited is using technologies from Honeywell UOP for the expansion and modernization of its refinery at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on the southeast coast of India.
CB&I awarded contract for hydrocracking unit for Afipsky refinery expansion
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- CB&I announced it has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $460 million by NefteGazIndustriya, LLC, through project developer China National Chemical Engineering Co., for the Afipsky Oil Refinery Expansion Project in Krasnodar, Russia. The project was included in CB&I's backlog in the third quarter of 2016.
Pöyry awarded engineering contract for Synthomer dispersion plant
Synthomer Deutschland GmbH has awarded Pöyry with the detail engineering services assignment for the revamp of its dispersion plant in Worms, Germany. The assignment includes detail engineering services for all disciplines as well as Health, Safety and Environment management, permitting engineering, cost control and project scheduling. Project is expected to be completed in the Q3 2018.
