REG to buy, restart east Texas biodiesel refinery
The New Boston facility began production in June 2008 and has been idled for approximately four years. Brad Albin, REG vice president of manufacturing, said the plant will undergo some construction and minor upgrades prior to the facility's start-up, which is expected in the first quarter of 2013.
Northeast US refineries nearly back to full strength after Hurricane Sandy
Sandy, which made landfall in New Jersey Monday, caused refineries with a total of 1 million bpd in capacity to shut down or cut operating rates. Most refineries are back to normal, although power outages have made getting supply to gas stations difficult and forced drivers to wait in long lines to refuel.
Gunvor signs deal with Russian company Rosneft to export refined products
Commodity trader Gunvor Group won the contract to export products from Rosneft's three refineries in Russia's Samara region following a tender. Gunvor will export the products via its Ust-Luga terminal on the Baltic Sea and its 50%-owned Novorossiysk terminal on the Black Sea.
BP to cut production at Indiana refinery as major upgrade project starts
BP will replace the largest of the refinery's three crude distillation units and expects the work to be completed by the second half of 2013, chief financial officer Brian Gilvary said. "This will temporarily reduced the crude capacity of the refinery by more than 50%," Gilvary added.
BP reports hydrotreater fire at Texas City refinery
BP spokesman Scott Dean said Tuesday afternoon that the fire occurred in one section of the residual hydrotreater unit, and company personnel are responding. Mr. Dean said that all workers around the unit were safely evacuated and there have been no reports of injuries.

Analysts estimate that about two-thirds of refining capacity along the US east coast has been shut down because of Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane expected to make landfall late Monday in the Northeast.
JX Nippon mulls shutting down Muroran refinery
The company has already cut its daily output by 400,000 bbl from 2008 and has now decided to cut output by an additional 200,000 bbl by the end of March 2014. By shutting down the Muroran plant, the company will cut 13% of its group refinery capacity which is equivalent to a daily output of 180,000 bbl.
Vitol finishes design of small South Sudan refinery
With the refinery design complete, Mark Ware, director of corporate affairs, said Vitol is now working with the South Sudan government to review the next phases of implementation for the project.
