Advanced Process Control has been used for many decades on wide variety of major process units such as crude distillation units, Hydrocrackers, FCC, Hydrotreaters and Reformers. However, due to a lack of understanding of achievable benefits, shortage of APC resources and gap in APC technology, some organizations do not implement APC on secondary units, leaving significant benefits on the table.
This paper describes the benefits of implementing APC applications on secondary units to improve margins and help achieve operational excellence.

The global LNG market has been turned upside down. In less than two years, the LNG marketplace has switched from a seller’s market to a buyer’s market. LNG buyers have gained more leverage due to a glut of liquefaction capacity and stagnant demand; spot and short-term purchases are gaining market share against long-term contracts; and LNG buyers are demanding better pricing and flexibility clauses within their supply contracts. How has the new LNG marketplace affected US LNG projects? This whitepaper examines the current US LNG project landscape, and the progress of propelling the country to be one of the leading LNG exporters by the end of the decade.

The global trend in motor fuel consumption favors diesel over gasoline, with gasoline often being in surplus. There is a simultaneous increase in demand for various petrochemicals such as propylene and aromatics. Technology providers have been successful to utilize the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) unit as a method to produce propylene by high severity operation, but the potential for other petrochemicals from these units has been neglected.
Cat-cracked gasoline contains a high level of olefins, some sulfur, and appreciable aromatics. Until now, the aromatics were not wanted due to the olefin and sulfur impurities in this stream. A novel technology is now available to separate the aromatics from FCC gasoline in order to use them directly for downstream applications. Additionally, the olefin fraction can be converted into aromatics through a simple fixed-bed reaction system. Thus all of the gasoline components are efficiently made into high-value petrochemicals. This combination of technology is much more efficient than methods that some operators use, which recycles FCC gasoline to the reforming unit.

Conceptual estimating is in the spotlight as EPCs scramble to put forth the best possible bids for highly contested capital projects. Estimating teams are pressured to “hunker down” and develop very detailed estimates early in the process. This white paper explains why the focus on detail is often applied to the wrong aspects of an estimate. Download it now and learn how to break the pattern of getting lost in the details.
