Maximizing Refinery Integration with FLEXICOKINGTM Technology
8 December 2017

This article will highlight the importance of residue upgrading processes for modern refineries in light of declining fuel oil demand and increasingly stringent environmental regulations. Carbon rejection processes are ideal for converting residue – it yields liquid products with higher hydrogen-carbon ratios, clean-burning fuel, known as flexigas, and a byproduct coke with reduced hydrogen-carbon ratio. ExxonMobil's carbon rejection process technology, FLEXICOKINGTM, integrates thermal conversion with air coke gasification to produce flexigas. To highlight how this technology works, the article will conclude with a case study which illustrates how FLEXICOKING helped improve the Hellenic Petroleum Elefsina Refinery’s economic and environmental performance.

Are you sitting on untapped potential? How new reactor internals can be used to enhance profitability
15 November 2017

Has your reactor shown signs of fouling, high pressure drop or thermal maldistribution, or had a shorter than expected cycle length? If so, you may be failing to capture the maximum value from your hydroprocessing unit or fixed-bed catalytic reactor. Furthermore, this could be having a severe impact on your refinery's profitability. This white paper discusses many of the most common issues encountered in a reactor and, through the inclusion of case studies, explains how a low-cost revamp involving the installation of latest-generation reactor internals can help to resolve them.

GT-BTX PluS®: Reduce Sulfur – Preserve Octane Value – Produce Petrochemicals (1)
6 November 2017

Find out how GT-BTX PluS® technology helps produce low-sulfur gasoline from catalytically cracked naphtha without a significant loss in octane value.  The extractive distillation technology segregates olefins from sulfur and aromatics, which can be directly blended in gasoline, thus eliminating the octane loss of traditional, selective HDS units.  GT-BTX PluS® is a variation of GT-BTX®, a proven extractive distillation technology that simultaneously removes benzene, toluene, xylenes and thiophenic sulfur species from aromatic-containing cracked naphtha.  Alternatively, the segregated aromatics can be sent for paraxylene production without the need to go through a naphtha reformer.

Why are Signal Conditioners Used?
13 October 2017

Signal conditioners ensure efficient signal transmission between the field level and control level at all times. Interference of measuring signals is a potential problem, particularly in large plants with long transmission paths. Signal conditioners allow the uninterrupted gathering of data, guaranteeing a smooth process that contributes to maximum plant availability.

WirelessHART® Power Metering For Enhanced Energy Management and Equipment Reliability
11 October 2017

World's first WirelessHART power meter addresses limitations with wired meters for faster and simpler implementation with less required maintenance. Traditional “wired” power meters have been available for many years and have been widely used in a variety of industries to diagnose equipment problems, and to monitor power consumption. Wired meters are hampered because they typically need a source of operating power, and they must be hardwired to the control and monitoring system. This limits installation points and increases deployment and maintenance costs.  A WirelessHART power meter has no similar limitations, and can therefore be installed where it’s needed to monitor power consumption.

Advanced Sulfur Analysis in Hydrocarbons
11 October 2017

Test methods for measuring sulfur content, like ASTM D4294 and ISO 8754, have become critical for assessing the value of crude oil. The blending of crude oils has become more commonplace within the industry to meet specifications for the classification of sweet crude oil. Throughout this whitepaper, we will discuss the following application studies:

  • Avoid Sulfur Measurement Bias from Particulate Settling in Crude Oil
  • S, Ni, V, and Fe Analysis of Crude Oil Using HDXRF®
  • Total Sulfur in Hydrocarbons by ASTM D4294

No More Purge Gas in Combustion Processes
11 October 2017

Combustion processes are an integral operation in refineries and petrochemical plants across the globe. Rising fuel costs and increasing competition are driving plants to adopt new techniques for measuring combustible gases with the goal of optimizing their combustion processes. This white paper explains how the new generation of tunable diode laser (TDL) oxygen and carbon monoxide analyzers not only offers exceptional fuel costs savings, but eliminates the need for process side purge gas.
