TOKYO (Reuters) -- Japanese oil refiners Idemitsu Kosan and Showa Shell Sekiyu said they have not decided on a capital and business tie-up as reported by some media organizations, and that they are still working towards an eventual merger.

Saras shuts down catalytic reforming unit at refinery for failure
(Reuters) -- Italian refiner Saras said that due to a failure, it was necessary to shutdown one of the two Catalytic Reforming units of the Sarroch refinery (the CCR unit), which produces high-octane gasoline blending components, as well as hydrogen to be used in the desulphurisation processes, due to a failure.
Delek Refining to use Honeywell services to ‘improve refinery performance’
DES PLAINES, Ill. -- Honeywell announced that Delek Refining, Inc. will use a new Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-based Connected Performance Services (CPS) at its refinery in Tyler, Texas.
KBR awarded license contract for largest ROSE unit design
HOUSTON – KBR, Inc. announced it has been awarded a license and basic engineering design (LBED) contract by Hyundai Oilbank (HDO) for an 80,000 bpd ROSE unit in Daesan, South Korea. The unit will be built using KBR's proprietary ROSE technology, which provides solvent deasphalting (SDA), and will be the largest SDA unit in the industry.
West African countries to ban toxic fuel imports, upgrade refineries
DAKAR (Thomson Reuters Foundation) -- Five West African countries have agreed to stop importing toxic fuels from Europe in a move that could improve the health of more than 250 million people, according to the United Nations.
Sturgeon Refinery project nears completion of phase one in Canada
OTTAWA -- Phase one of the Sturgeon Refinery, which will process bitumen and produce primarily diesel fuel in Alberta, is nearing completion. The project shows that additional economic value can be generated within the province, according to a Conference Board of Canada report, “Is There Value in Adding Value?” an assessment of the Sturgeon Refinery.

Industry Perspectives: New downstream project announcements drop 35% in 2016
According to <i>Hydrocarbon Processing’s</i> Construction Boxscore Database, nearly 470 new projects have been announced in the downstream hydrocarbon processing industry over the past two years. New project announcements have fallen from 285 in 2015 to 185 in 2016. This trend analysis represents a year-over-year decrease of approximately 35%.
