Nigeria's Dangote oil refinery running gasoline unit at 75% capacity

Nigeria's Dangote oil refinery is running its gasoline making RFCC unit at 75% capacity since April 22 due to a temperature control issue, an alert from industry monitor IIR that was seen by media showed.

Additionally, its two polypropylene unit trains are also running at a lower rate of around 40% since April 22, and are expected to return to full throughput by May 6, the alert from IIR said.

The gasoline unit not running at full capacity could spell trouble for the local market, as fuel prices have reached record-high levels and risen 65% at the pump from the impact of war in the Middle East.

Africa's largest refinery, it became fully operational early this year and was designed to transform Nigeria into a major exporter of refined products after decades of inadequate refinery capacity.

Gasoline exports from the refinery also stand at their highest since June last year, with 71,000 bpd being exported so far in April, according to data from commodities analytics firm Kpler.
