Amec Foster Wheeler has been awarded an engineering and project management services contract by PT Pertamina (Persero) and Saudi Aramco for the upgrade and expansion of the 348 Mbpd Cilacap Refinery in Central Java.

Over the next nine months, Amec Foster Wheeler will conduct the basic engineering design study, develop the scope for the proposed project and finalize the process configuration and licensors’ packages.

The upgrade of the Cilacap Refinery is part of Pertamina’s Refinery Development Master Plan. It aims to improve Indonesia’s energy security and involves the expansion and upgrade of its domestic refineries, with the overall Cilacap Refinery upgrade project estimated to cost approximately $4-5 B.

The upgrade and expansion project is intended to increase the capacity of the refinery to 370 Mbpd, maximize production of cleaner gasoline and diesel, produce higher quality base oils for the domestic market, and expand aromatics and polypropylene production to more than 600 Mtpy and 160 Mtpy, respectively.
