CVR Refining shuts Kansas plant after fire, injuries

Four workers were injured following an overnight fire at the CVR Refining plant on Coffeyville, Kansas.

The fire was reported at 12:30 a.m. local time in the Coffeyville refinery's isomerization unit, according to company officials, who said the fire was extinguished at 1:18 a.m.

The 115,000 bpd refinery was shut down, and four employees were injured and transported to a local hospital. Identities of those four employees and further information on their condition was not released.

All other employees were accounted for, and initial reports said there was no impact to the surrounding community.

"CVR Refining personnel express their deepest concern for and are currently providing assistance to the injured employees and their families," the company said in a statement. "Company officials are assessing the situation and will provide updates as information becomes available."

The cause of the fire was not yet known.

The Coffeyville refinery largely produces clean transportation products such as gasoline, diesel fuels and propane, according to a report from news agency Reuters.
