Tanker drivers to strike for three days at Scottish refinery in Grangemouth
LONDON -- Tanker drivers at Scotland's only oil refinery, Grangemouth, will begin three days of strike action Friday, according to the Unite labor union.
The strike, which will affect delivery of aviation and motor fuel from the 210,000 bpd refinery, is being taken in order to defend pension rights ahead of a transfer of their employment contracts from BP to DHL, Unite said.
Strike action will begin at 0400 GMT on Feb. 22 and continue until 0800 GMT on Monday Feb. 25, when a continuous ban on overtime will begin.
BP said in a statement that its priority remains the safe delivery of fuel products.
"We have been working to and continue to work to minimize any potential disruption that the industrial action...could cause," BP said.
Grangemouth, situated on the Forth River on the east coast of Scotland, is owned by Ineos. An Ineos spokesman wasn't immediately available for comment.
