ConocoPhillips finishes Illinois refinery expansion

By ROSE MARTON-VITALE

ConocoPhillips said the expansion project at its joint-venture Wood River refinery in Roxana, Illinois, has been completed following the successful start of a new coker unit.

The $3.8 billion coker and refinery expansion, or CORE, project has increased the refinery's crude oil processing capacity by 50,000 bpd to 358,000 bpd and enhances its ability to process heavy Canadian crude.

It also improves the plant's clean product yield by 5%, resulting in a 50,000 bpd increase in gasoline and distillate production capacity.

The Wood River Refinery is jointly owned by ConocoPhillips and Cenovus Energy and is operated by ConocoPhillips.
