7 out of 10 German customers fill up wrong

With the introduction of Super E10 (10% ethanol blended gasoline), nearly 70% of German drivers avoid filling up with the higher bioethanol fuel blend. While 90% of the vehicles are compatible with for Super E10, drivers still refrain from using the new fuel over concerns of potential engine damage according to the Association of the German Petroleum Industry (MWV).

Beginning in January 2011, the maximum bioethanol level in blended gasoline increased from 5% to 10% as part of Germany’s environmental program.  The new E10 biofuels is being introduced, and E5 gasoline is still available for vehicle models that still require the lower ethanol level. However, if drivers continue to avoid using the E10, there are concerns that E5 gasoline will be in short supplies according to MWV. The traditional Super 95 with maximum E5 will be phased out; E10 is now the standard grade fuel.

MWV urges drivers to check with their vehicle manufacture on the compatibility of the higher blend biofuel to their personal vehicle.
