This method is particularly useful for operators, which traditionally have a limited database compared to contractors. To overcome this challenge, operators have created, maintained and organized a dimensional database of existing process equipment and skids.

The overall dimensions of a skid are related to key parameters, such as diameter and length of pressure vessel, highest flange rating, outer diameter (OD) of pipe, and the number of slots or parallel runs.
