A rigorous and accurate performance evaluation of existing equipment is a key factor for the success of a plant revamp study. For a crude distillation unit (CDU) with a complex process configuration, it is more challenging to perform the evaluation in a limited period of time. The performance evaluation of a preheat train in a CDU, which consists of many heat exchangers, can be time-consuming and technically difficult. At present, the recommended method is to use a consolidated simulation model with an interface that includes a thermal rating tool. The work efficiency can be improved by adopting this method, but the simulation requires a long running time and a significant amount of working
