Refiners are using delayed coking to upgrade heavy residual material into lighter produts. Delayed coking operations increase the volume of byproduct noncondensable hydrocarbons generated and typically flared. A refinery installed a new flare gas recovery system (FGRS) on a delayed coker. The FGRS is capable of recovering 44 metric tons/day (tpd) of flare gases from the delayed coker. Such recovery efforts have lowered facility sulfur dioxides (SOx) emissions by 95%, translating to an economic savings of $3.5 million per year. The facility.
