The world market for water and wastewater treatment chemicals in the power sector will rise from $3.4 billion in 2006 to $4 billion in 2010, says a new report by the McIlvaine Company (www.mcilvainecompany.com). Growth in the power market is due primarily to the switch from gas to coal as the fuel for new plants, according to this study. Coal-fired plants are large purchasers of treatment chemicals; gas turbine plants are only modest users. One small category that is forecast to have double-digit growth, according to this research, is in treatment chemicals for flue gas desulfurization systems in power plants.
