Earnings across the basic chemicals and plastics industry generally will be on the upside in 2006, although certain segments have already retracted from up-cycle peaks, according to an annual outlook from CMAI (www.cmaiglobal.com). "Industry earnings will accelerate through at least 2006, after which the industry appears headed back to surplus conditions."
The earnings boost was in full swing by 2004, but notable segment contribution changed dramatically due to extremely tight and profitable markets for ethylene, propylene, benzene and xylenes.
