slower than the economy in 2002. Greenhouse gas emissions increased
by 0.5% in 2002, from 6,829 million metric tons carbon dioxide
equivalent (MMtCO
2e) in 2001 to 6,862 MMtCO
2e in 2002, according to Emissions of Greenhouse Gases
in the United States 2002, a recent report from the Energy
Information Administration (www.eia.doe.gov).
The 2002 increase of 0.5% is well below
the rate of economic growth of 2.4% and below the average annual
growth rate in greenhouse gas emissions since 1990 of 0.9%. Total
