Are you or your employees members of a professional society? If so, why? If not, why not? Society membership is declining everywhere. Why is this happening? As a member of multiple societies, I became concerned over not only a decline in overall membership, but a change in membership. People seemed to be getting older and not as many young people were attending. There were fewer end users and more vendors. I recently sent out an e-mail broadcast within the group I am most active (Houston Section of the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA)) asking some simple questions about society membership.
