The recent uptake for gas-to-liquid (GTL) projects is boiling up.
Primary drivers for GTL announcements are fuel issues, environment
and, most important, money. So, why all the interest in
technologies that have been around for quite some time? GTL is
based on syngas conversion technology - the Fischer-Tropsch (FT)
process, which was commercialized in the mid-1930s. Yet, several
major technology / oil companies are jumping on the GTL bandwagon.
Why? Well, it's all about money.
Money. Many major E&P companies have discovered gas
while exploring for crude oil and are vitally interested in
developing these gas reserves. Yet, the majority of this gas is
deemed to be stranded.
