As of 2000, metallocene catalysts have captured nearly 7% of the world's total LLDPE market. Consumption is expected to further increase at more than 25%/yr over the next 5 yr. So says a recent market study from Phillip Townsend Associates (www.ptai.com). The analysis reviews the technology, trends and markets for metallocene polyethylene (mPE) resins. Global consumption of mPE resins has been virtually doubling every year since their commercialization in 1995. With world consumption estimated at close to 1 million tons (MMton), initial high growth rates are now slowing. Nevertheless, by 2005, world consumption is forecast to more than triple to 3.1 MMton, according to this research. Alt
