Phillips 66 digital transformation journey
Phillips 66 Refining Operations Excellence Audit Manager, Anthony Nalbone, and Director Digital IT Asset Maintenance & Engineering Applications, Karen Laneri shared Phillips 66’s digital transformation journey. A journey that Nalbone says has been widely accepted.
“Historically operators did rounds by paper—not a really smart or efficient way of doing it. The game changer is this little thing right here, this happens to be an iPhone. This is how we do things now if I order pizza—I do it right here. If I order my movie tickets—I do it through here. Everybody has a cell phone, so it was obvious, ‘let’s migrate that into our business.’ So essentially now our operators are doing all their rounds via iPhone. We converted all the forms into digital forms.”
Nalbone said operators enter work notifications through their phones rather than traditional paperwork filings. “They go out there and they find something wrong, they take a picture of it and circle where the problem is. They attach that notification and it goes right up to the SAP system. The maintenance planners love it because now they see that picture and can understand and know what the issue is.”
Phillips 66 replaced outdated internal systems with Siemens XHQ, a product line that presents operational and business data in real-time to improve performance. Nalbone said the Siemens technology will be an enabling platform to deliver Phillips 66’s vision and benefits.
“One of the reasons we partnered with Siemens is because of the capability, we really envision this as being again that single point of information for all information as we continue our digital journey,” Nalbone said.
