AIChE ’17: 13th Global Congress on Process Safety

SAN ANTONIO -- Run in parallel with the AIChE Spring Meeting, GCPS also draws a large attendance and a significant number of exhibitors. Now in San Antonio for 2017, the plenary session AGILE award keynote address was “Chemical Engineers Can Do Anything” by John Televantos of Arsenal Capital Partners.

Lunch sessions featured Billy Bardin of Dow Chemical on “Industry 4.0: Challenges and Opportunities for the Chemical Industry,” Michael McAfee of BASF on “Process Safety and the Link to a Reliability Centered Culture” and Keith Silverman of Ashland “Sustaining a Zero-Incident Culture.”

The technical program is six parallel tracks for three days, involving over 80 chairs and co-chairs. Several of the tracks have a long tradition: the 51st Loss Prevention Symposium, the 32nd Center for Chemical Process Safety international conference, the 19th Process Plant Safety Symposium, the Sixth Process Safety Management Mentoring program. Rounding out the tracks are “Process Safety Spotlights” and “Perspectives on Process Safety Around the Globe.” In addition on Tuesday evening poster session displayed over 100 large-format presentations and a dozen in digital format.

GCPS wrapped up Wednesday afternoon with a joint session on “Case Histories and Lessons Learned.” These presented incident investigations and findings from waste solvent haulage, electrostatic precipitator explosion, tank farm explosion and fire, produced water tank explosion, an absorber unit incident and a company review of its own milestone incidents and process safety journey. The quality of all these case study presentations, and the factual manner of their disclosure, provides useful guidance to the hydrocarbon processing industry.

AIChE makes all of these presentations available for purchase after the event.
