IRPC 2016: eni's EST process in action
Hydrocarbon Processing's International Refining and Petrochemical Conference 2016 is in full swing. In its seventh year, IRPC has returned to Italy with a full schedule of technical presentations and downstream exhibition. This year's theme, "Innovation in the Downstream", focuses on the latest advancements in the downstream industry, best practices and the future of the refinery, petrochemical and gas processing industries. The multi-track program, now with an added gas processing track, features sessions devoted to process technology and optimization, plant design, maintenance and reliability, efficiency, plant integration, safety, feedstocks, and emerging technologies.
Day One of the conference featured a special tour of eni's Sannazzaro de'Burgondi refinery. Generously sponsored by eni, IRPC attendees were greeted with an informative presentation on the refinery's history and a detailed look at eni's slurry technology (EST). Led by eni's executive vice president Giacomo Rispoli, attendees dived deep into this ground-breaking technology. EST is able to completely convert refinery residues, heavy oils and bitumen into high-quality light products, eliminating the production of both liquid and solid refinery residues, such as coke or fuel oil. In refining operations, the EST process can be a solution for the conversion of the "bottom of the barrel". The $1.3-B project began operations in 4Q 2013.IRPC 2016 will begin its full 2-day technical program and exhibition on Wednesday, June 7th.
