Polish oil pipeline to Germany restarts after checks for potential leak
Polish oil pipeline company PERN restored the operation of one of two branches of the western Druzhba pipeline transporting oil to German refineries after halting it briefly to check for a potential leak, the company said on Tuesday.
PERN said in a statement that checks were made near Zurawice in central Poland after a resident from the area reported an unusual odor.
Checks on the 2 km (1.24 mi) long strand of the pipeline were made; no leak or damage was detected and after more than three hours oil pumping resumed.
"The situation had no impact on our clients," company spokesperson Pawel Lukaszewicz said.
The pipeline transports oil for the Schwedt refinery, which traditionally supplies fuel for Berlin as well as TotalEnergies' Leuna refinery near Leipzig in eastern Germany.
