Russia's diesel output to rise in May despite seasonal maintenance

Russia's ability to produce diesel is expected to rise in May despite usual seasonal maintenance at oil refineries, as more diesel-producing units are expected to go back online after repairs, calculations based on industry data showed on Thursday.

Multiple Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries this year led to a flurry of unplanned maintenance works on diesel units, changing the usual refinery turnaround plans.

According to the data, May idle diesel production capacity is expected to decline by 8.1% from April to 1.6 MM tonnes (t) or 52,700 tpd (around 392,088 bpd).

That accounts for 15.8% for diesel output capacity to be idled in May, down from 17.3% last month.

Russian authorities said there is enough fuel to meet domestic demand and provide gasoline and diesel during planned refinery maintenance.

Russia's offline primary oil refining capacity in May is set to decline to 2.4 MMt (565,162 bpd) from 2.84 MMt in April, according to calculations based on data from industry sources.
