Sinopec's Zhenhai refinery says fire at crude unit has been put out
China's Sinopec Zhenhai refinery said a fire that broke out on one of its crude distillation units (CDUs) late on Tuesday had been put out, with no casualties or injuries reported.
The incident took place during the commissioning of new units in a major expansion at the plant.
The No. 5 crude unit caught fire around 9:55 pm on Tuesday local time (1355 GMT) after a leak, and the fire was distinguished two hours later, Zhenhai refinery said on its official microblog around midnight on Tuesday.
Three trade sources said the No. 5 unit is the new 220,000-bpd CDU.
Zhenhai is Sinopec's largest subsidiary refinery, which in December completed a major expansion that expanded its crude processing capacity to 800,000 bpd, from 460,000 bpd earlier.
Two of the sources said the commissioning of new units may be delayed by the incident.
