Technip Energies passes final performance acceptance test for olefins plant in Vietnam

Technip Energies has announced that the Long Son Petrochemicals Co. Ltd. (LSP) olefins plant in Long Son Island, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Vietnam, has passed its final performance acceptance test.

Technip Energies provided the licensing, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup and initial operation for the 1.35-metric MMtpy cracker.

As Vietnam’s first olefins plant, the flexible feed cracker can utilize both naphtha and liquified petroleum gas feeds to produce 950,000 tpy of ethylene, 400,000 tpy of propylene and 80,000 tpy–107,000 tpy of butadiene.

The plant successfully started up at the end of 2023 to reach its full capacity shortly after the startup and pass its first performance test in February 2024. The plant, which broke ground in 2018, includes Technip Energies’ licensed ethylene technology, including Ultra Selective Conversion (USC®) furnaces preferred for high selectivity and low cost, and the Heat-Integrated Rectifier System®, preferred for energy efficient ethylene recovery.

Bhaskar Patel, Senior Vice President, Sustainable Fuels, Chemicals & Circularity, commented: “We are pleased with passing the final performance acceptance of the Long Son Petrochemicals’ olefins plant. This is a great milestone for Vietnam and another example of our know-how to improve energy efficiency through our proven ethylene technology.”
