South Korea's S-Oil shuts a crude unit for scheduled overhaul

South Korea's S-Oil has shut the No. 1 crude distillation unit (CDU) and some refining units at its Onsan refinery for a scheduled overhaul this week, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.

The shutdown of the 90,000-bpd CDU is expected to last until the second half of October, the three sources added.

The refinery's 27,000-bpd diesel/kerosene hydrotreater is also shut for maintenance, one of the sources said.

S-Oil—whose main shareholder is Saudi Aramco—flagged the closure during the second half in an earnings presentation earlier, but had not given further details.

The Onsan refinery houses three crude distillation units with total processing capacity of 580,000 bpd and a 89,000-bpd condensate fractionation unit, the company says on its website.
