Iraq's Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, revealed a significant increase in Iraq's refining capacity by 360,000 bpd within the last year. The Oil Ministry aims to achieve self-sufficiency in oil derivatives and eventually export any surplus.
The completion of isomerization units for gasoline production at South and Midland Refineries Companies has contributed to the reduction of gasoline imports of nearly 2,000 m3/d. Abdul-Ghani highlighted the upcoming fluid catalytic cracking project in the South Refineries Company, expected to commence production by mid-2025, with a capacity of 5,000 m3/d, which will further decrease the need for high-octane gasoline imports.
