L&T wins contract from Indian Oil Corporation
The Hydrocarbon-Onshore division of L&T’s Energy Business has secured a large contract from Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL).
IOCL is implementing the Panipat Refinery Expansion (P-25) Project to enhance refining capacity from 15 MMtpy to 25 MMtpy to meet the growth in demand of petroleum products and to increase their profitability and competitiveness in the long run.
Terra Drone Corporation & NDT CCS performs visual inspection of Adnoc Refining's RFCC facilities
Terra Drone Corporation, the world's largest provider of drone services and technology, in collaboration with NDT CCS, a well-known NDT inspection company in the middle east region have just completed a pilot project for the RFCC Cyclone & CO Boiler Internal Visual Inspection using drones for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Refining, a subsidiary of ADNOC that handles downstream processes.
The pilot project this time was carried out to prove that drones can be used for internal visual inspections at RFCC facilities, especially in reactors, cyclones, and boilers. This project was carried out at an oil & gas processing facility, precisely at Resid Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) in Al-Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Kent signs a three-year MSA with Avangard Innovative
Kent, a leading engineering company in oil and gas and low carbon energy, have secured a 3-year master services agreement (MSA) with AVANGARD INNOVATIVE LLC for plastic recycling facilities in the United States.
Kent’s scope is to provide project management and engineering services, including pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design, for new facilities that will produce high-quality post-consumer resin pellets to satisfy the growing demand by consumer products companies to increase the amount of recycled content in their products and achieve their sustainability objectives for a circular economy.
The OPC Foundation (OPCF) and the FieldComm Group (FCG) are pleased to announce a collaboration to drive multi-vendor interoperability of instrumentation devices based on OPC UA and the extensions for the field level, named OPC UA FX (Field eXchange). This development will incorporate preliminary work by both organizations. This will ensure that the market will have only one single standard. The aim is to provide an interoperable interface between PLC / DCS and instrumentation devices, such as transmitters, instruments, and actuators. The solution shall support different industries such as oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, water & wastewater, and pulp & paper.
Clean Fuel refinery expansion will reduce Thailand energy dependence
Thailoil's ongoing expansion and upgrading works at its Laemchabang plant (Chonburi province, approximately 125km from Bangkok) will enable the state-owned oil company to increase its crude oil processing capacity from 275,000 bpd to an estimated 400,000 bpd upon completion in 2023.
These expansion works have required an estimated investment of $4.8bn since project approval in 2018, to upgrade from a light crude processing plant to include, among others, a crude distillation unit (CDU), a hydrogen manufacturing unit, and an energy recovery unit (ERU). This latter unit will generate up to 250MW of electricity and 175 tons of steam per hour, which will cover the energy needs of the rest of the plant.
TotalEnergies Marine Fuels completes COSCO SHIPPING Lines’ first bunkering of marine biofuel
TotalEnergies Marine Fuels has successfully completed the first refueling of a COSCO Shipping Lines containership with sustainable marine biofuel. This operation marks TotalEnergies’ first biofuel bunkering operation for a containership in Singapore.
In July 2022, the 4,250 TEU COSCO HOUSTON container vessel was bunkered with TotalEnergies-supplied biofuel in Singapore waters, via ship-to-ship transfer. VLSFO (Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil) blended with 20% second-generation, waste-based and ISCC-certified UCOME (Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester), was bunkered via an operation that was made possible with support from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the involvement of local partners such as tank storage company, Vopak Terminals Singapore at Penjuru.
PetroChina’s Dagang refinery commissions new alkylation unit using Ionikylation Technology
PetroChina Dagang Petrochemical Company successfully commissioned a 150,000 tpy Ionikylation unit for the production of high octane alkylate. Start-up activities were completed on August 14, 2022. The Dagang alkylation unit is the third Ionikylation unit in PetroChina’s portfolio and the seventh commercial Ionikylation project to date.
The Dagang refinery has an annual crude processing capacity of 5,000,000 tpy and it produces 1,500,000 tpy of gasoline. According to PetroChina, Ionikylation was selected for its proven ability to achieve quality and efficiency of alkylate production, enabling the company to meet National VI gasoline specification requirements while improving its environmental and operational safety profile. Alkylate RON from the newly commissioned unit is reported at 98.
California's push to ban gas-powered cars nearly finalized
California's transition to electric-powered vehicles could be accelerated after regulators are expected to approve plans to phase out gas-powered vehicles Thursday, according to Bloomberg news.
In 2020, California Governor David Newsom announced an executive order to rid the state of gas-powered vehicles by 2035 "requiring automakers to steadily increase their sales of zero-emission cars in the nation’s largest auto market." according to the news article.
Most of BP's Whiting refinery units shut following fire
Most of the units at bp Plc’s 435,000 barrel-per-day Whiting, Indiana, refinery were out of production on Thursday following a Wednesday night fire, said sources familiar with plant operations.
The company has said some units were shut by the electrical fire and those units would be restarting.
The timing of the restart had not been determined by midday Thursday, the sources said
INEOS Phenol announced that it has agreed to acquire the entire asset base of Mitsui Phenols Singapore Ltd from Mitsui Chemicals, a leading Japanese chemicals manufacturer, for a total consideration of $330 MM.
The business has a turnover of $750 MM and produces over 1 MMt of product each year, including cumene (410,000 tpy), phenol (310,000 tpy), acetone (185,000 tpy) alpha-methylstyrene (20,000 tpy) and bisphenol A (150,000 tpy). The addition of the Jurong phenol and BPA assets provide a good fit with our existing asset portfolio and expertise of INEOS Phenol and presents significant integration opportunities with our manufacturing sites in Germany, Belgium and the United States.
