LIMA (Reuters) — An explosion at a Petroperu crude oil tank killed two men who had been performing maintenance work on Wednesday, the state-owned oil company said.
Petroperu was investigating the cause of the blast at the 300-m3 tank near its oil pipeline in the region of Cajamarca, the company said in a statement.
Beatriz Alva, a Petroperu spokeswoman, said the explosion had not disrupted normal operations.
The men killed were contract workers, Petroperu said. A third man suffered first- and second-degree burns.
The explosion followed repeated oil spills from Petroperu’s pipeline that the company has blamed on attacks by unidentified vandals.
