Brazil set a record for crude oil and natural gas production in 2011 as ongoing tests at recently discovered oil fields continue to boost the country's output.
Brazil produced 768 million bbl of crude oil and 24 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2011, for total output of 919 million barrels of oil equivalent, or BOE, the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency, or ANP, said Thursday.
Average daily output was 2.52 million BOE in 2011, up from 2.45 million BOE per day in 2010, according to the ANP.
Output at the country's inland and offshore oil fields also set records for monthly production in December, the ANP said.
Brazil produced 2.214 million bpd of crude in December, up 1.2% from November and a 1.6% increase from December 2010, the ANP said.
Natural gas output advanced 5.1% month-on-month in December to 71 million cubic meters a day, the ANP said. That was also up 3.1% from December 2010.
Total average daily crude oil and natural gas output was 2.663 million BOE in December.
