Marathon Oil subsidiary Speedway named top US retail gasoline brand for third year
For the third year in a row, Speedway is the highest-ranked gasoline brand in the US, according to the Harris Poll EquiTrend survey of more than 25,000 consumers. This year's ranking resulted in Speedway being named the 2011 retail gasoline brand of the year.
Speedway, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil, is the nation's fourth-largest company-owned and operated convenience store chain, with approximately 1,350 stores located in seven states in the Midwest.
"Speedway is honored to once again be named the highest ranked gasoline brand," said Tony Kenney, president of Speedway. "This award truly belongs to the 17,000 Speedway employees throughout our company, who constantly strive to be the very best in the business."
The annual study asks consumers to rank brands in a variety of categories. In addition to being named the brand of the year, Speedway was ranked highest in specific categories such as quality and trust.
In addition to an official trophy presentation on May 17 at Speedway's Enon, Ohio, headquarters, the company plans an extensive company-wide celebration in coming months to recognize the continuing efforts of Speedway employees at every level.
During July, television commercials will air featuring company employees thanking customers for the award, Speedway officials said.
