Common challenges in risk-based inspection for piping: Insights from experience
This article will identify the top five common problems and concerns related to risk-based inspection assessments for piping, along with some thoughts on how to address these issues.
The Authors
Clay White is a Fixed Equipment Mechanical Integrity and Corrosion/Materials Expert for Becht. He has 36 yr of experience spanning the refining and chemicals sectors. As Phillips 66’s former Corporate MI Director, White implemented programs that halved leaks and reduced risks. He remains active in API, AFPM, NACE and MTI leadership roles.
Matt Caserta is the Corrosion, Materials and Integrity Division Manager at Becht. With more than 20 yr of engineering experience in refining, chemical processing and consulting, he specializes in mechanical integrity, fixed equipment reliability and inspection. Prior to joining Becht, Caserta served as Inspection Supervisor at a 100,000-bpd refinery, where he managed a team of more than 25 inspection and engineering professionals.
