Aging infrastructure has become a much-talked-about issue across the hydrocarbon industry. Many long-running plants have worked almost nonstop for more than 30 yr–40 yr. They have seen downturns and years of fast economic growth. During times of fast economic growth, instrumentation might have been pressed into service in ever-smaller spaces to accommodate the demands of the market.
