Crude oils from tight formations are relatively light, low in concarbon, and contain different contaminants. They have high naphtha and distillate yields, lower vacuum gasoil (VGO) content and almost no vacuum resid (VR). Due to the high naphtha yield, which is more paraffinic, maintaining the octane balance of the gasoline blending pool becomes more difficult. It also places higher emphasis on fluid-catalytic cracker (FCC) gasoline octane. Other effects on the FCC unit (FCCU) include maintaining the heat balance and managing the different contaminants.
