A modern refinery in Finland processes used lubrication oil and produces renewed base oil for lubrication products, gasoil and fuel gas. The process uses a front-end additive removal stage from the used lubrication oil, followed by a hydrogenation reaction stage. The product is hydrotreated and then distilled to produce base oil and gasoil, in addition to the fuel gas that is used for internal energy generation. The plant also produces sour water (i.e., water contaminated with hydrogen sulfide, or H2S) from various sources.
