CMAI recently completed an annual global study covering the period 2002 to 2012 for the terephthalates and polyester markets. Major polyester chain products include terephthalic acid (TPA) and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), bottle resin (PET), polyester film as well as other terephthalate derivatives. The study offers a global view of noteworthy issues facing this important value chain. Key conclusions of the report: Oversupply threats. Almost all new TPA capacity planned for 2006 and first-half 2007 has been successfully commissioned and 9 million metric tons (MMton) of effective capacity is still to be added before 2010.
