New process upgrades heavy ends as refinery fuel
Multiphase superfine atomized residue (MSAR) fuel is a liquid fuel consisting of very fine oil particles dispersed in a water carrier. Heavy residual feedstocks are processed into a water-based emulsion fuel with oil particles of typically 3 micron (µ) to 5 µwhich is, effectively, a pre-atomized fuel.
The MSAR technology, developed by Quadrise Fuels International, provides refiners with more flexibility to upgrade heavy residues with existing processing units. The new process has been used to improve the processing economics for deep-cut vacuum distillation and visbreaking operations.
