Average October 1 to March 31 prices and expenditures for all space-heating fuels are projected to be higher than winter 2006–2007. Residential natural gas prices are expected to average $13.14/thousand cubic feet (Mcf) this winter compared with $12.36/Mcf last winter. Heating oil prices are expected to average $2.88/gal compared with $2.48/gal last winter, and propane prices are expected to average $2.28/gal compared with $2.02/gal last winter.
The following are other highlights from the Energy Information Administration's (EIA) short-term outlook for US winter fuels use. Table 1 provides a four-year pricing summary and forecast for key products.
