A sales engineer visited a customer with different pieces of processing equipment that included an oven. The customer asked a lubrication-related question and received an answer from the sales engineer. Let's see his answer and then decide how you would have answered. The application is a rolling-element pillow-block bearing that turns less than 30 rpm and the temperature radiated from the oven is about 215°F (102°C). The sales engineer recommended an ISO Grade 100 or ISO Grade 150 (~600 SUS at 100°F) oil for this temperature and made reference to a widely used text.
