Over 20 projects in the chemical processing industry are in the engineering phase and set to begin construction in the first quarter of 2007. The combined total investment value of the 21 projects is approximately $7.5 billion, which breaks down into an average of $357 million per project, according to research from Industrial Info Resources (www.industrialinfo.com). Unit addition projects make up 66%, grassroots projects account for 29% and revamps make up 1%. The single largest project is a $1.2-billion grassroots ethylene plant to be built by a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Borealis Holdings AS.
