It is difficult to find a trade, business or even a general news publication that has not given extensive coverage to recent developments in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). With this level of gong-banging, it can be difficult to see clearly how this technology will develop, and when and if it will impact the hydrocarbon processing industry. Yet already global HPI leaders like BP and ChevronTexaco are engaged in pilot programs to evaluate the potential of emerging WSN technologies.
