Demand for basic petrochemicals and thermoplastics, while growing slowly through the poor economic times, ?is on a relentless path to overwhelming supply,? according to Gary Adams of CMAI, a market research firm (www.cmaiglobal.com). The first clear signs of the beginning of a fundamental recovery appeared in 2003 and were in certain, limited market segments, notably aromatics (benzene, xylenes and styrene monomer) and olefins (propylene).
