US Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham offers the DOE's
suggestions for easing the effects of a tightening natural
gas market. In a letter to state public utility
commissioners, he recommended action for:
Programs to encourage consumer energy
efficiency
Education campaigns on electric and gas
conservation opportunities
More efficient power sources
Infrastructure expansion.
Mr. Abraham notes that the EIA forecasts natural gas
prices will average $5 - 6/MMBtu throughout 2003, diminishing
slightly in 2004. Late summer prices in 2002 averaged
$3.32/MMBtu.
