Carbon sequestration is a promising area of research
in which carbon emissions are captured and permanently
stored, rather than being released into the atmosphere. The
Department of Energy (DOE) is expanding its program to
develop these projects.
The federal government is creating a network of 4 -
10 regional sequestration partnerships. DOE is asking
industry, state and local agencies and universities to join
with the agency in forming the partnerships. Participants
will help determine the technologies, regulations and
infrastructure that are best suited for specific regions of
the U.S.
