Expect a major increase in polyolefin exports to China, over 10 million tons (MMton) by decade's end, says a new study by Nexant ChemSystems and Sinodata Consulting. Total polyolefins demand is projected to increase from 15 MMton in 2002 to more than 28 MMton by 2010. This represents an increase of 1.5 MMton/yr - but domestic capacity will not increase nearly as fast. The net result is an increase in imports of approximately 1 MMton/yr from 2003 to 2010.
