Optimize gas turbine driven centrifugal compressors I read with interest the article "Optimize gas turbine driven centrifugal compressors," as published in the November 2000 issue of Hydrocarbon Processing. I have a question regarding the compressor startup case. My experience, within exploration and production (E&P) has been that during startups – despite the fact that the molecular weight (MW) is low – the flowrate required is lower than the design rate. The lower throughput requirement to a large extent makes up for the loss in discharge pressure which one would experience at higher throughputs. What this implies is that the lower MW needs to be "matched" with the flow require
