Offline boiler cleanings used to be a very
predictable event, especially in utilities. Deposits that
form on the tube surfaces inhibit heat transfer and reduce
boiler efficiency. Cleaning of steam generating equipment
restores OEM heat-transfer efficiency lost from the effects
of tube-surface deposition. Online chemical cleaning programs
are difficult to control and their results are unpredictable.
Consequently, industry prefers offline chemical
cleaning.
The frequency of cleanings has declined due to
improved feedwater quality, increased efforts to limit
downtime, heightened concern over damage to a boiler's base
