STAR ’17: ‘Design Exploration’ leads the way
BERLIN -- STAR Global Conference 2017 wrapped up after two days of user presentations in five parallel tracks. Session themes included ground transportation, powertrain, automotive, internal combustion engines, aerospace, marine, life sciences, electronics & electrification, buildings, chemical process industry, oil & gas and energy.
Monday night, attendees had the opportunity to watch the “Stars in Concert” cover band in the Berlin Estrel Hotel and Conference Center.
In computational fluid dynamics, significant progress has been made in going beyond analysis to optimization. HEEDS from Red Cedar Technology, a Siemens PLM company, automates design workflows and automatically shares data between different computer-aided engineering modeling and simulation products.
By mid-2017, this functionality will be incorporated into a planned release of STAR-CCM+ with “Design Manager.” The benefit: rather than just an analysis which shows a design is sub-optimal, it provides a user with streamlined tools to optimize the design. HEEDS has four enabling technologies; BUILD (process automation), TEST (scalable computation), IMPROVE (efficient search) and ASSESS (design review).
